Troop Leader
Get started as a new leader by participating in New Leader Cohort Training, then continue to grow in your leader skills throughout the years by accessing additional trainings in gsLearn. From outdoor skills, exploring Gender and Sexuality, to learning how to take your troop travelling, we have a training for you.
Access gsLearn through your MyGS account. Check back often for new content.
Troop Cookie Manager
Service Units will reach out to you with in-person training details. If your Service Unit does not have in-person training or you missed your training you are required to complete the online training.
Self-Serve Online Training - Available ahead of the 2024 Cookie Program
In-Person/Virtual Training - Contact your local Service Unit cookie manager to find out when and where your in-person or virtual training will take place.
Troop Fall Product (Snacks & Magazines) Manager
All Snacks & Magazines managers are highly encouraged to complete the online training in preparation for the Snacks & Magazines season. This training should take about 30 minutes to complete.

The Service Unit Volunteer Orientation is a helpful overview for all Service Unit teams members and a key step in completing your Service Unit volunteer onboarding.
Self-Serve Online Training - Complete the Service Unit Cookie Manager Online Training if you were unable to attend the virtual training session. Remember that you must have attended a virtual training session or complete the self-serve online training as a part of your Service Unit level role.
Training Your Troops
Once you’ve completed your Service Unit Cookie Training, it’s time to train the troops! Connect with your troops to inform them of their training opportunities, whether you’ll be holding an in-person training or directing them to online opportunities. Use these resources to determine the option that will work best for you. The goal is to provide troops with a high-level overview of the Cookie Program, why it’s important, what participation does for the Girl Scouts, and general “how to’s.”
Troop Training Toolkit
In the training toolkit, we’ve included a training outline, training tips, and a presentation to lead you through the discussion. During training, don’t forget to direct troops to the Troop Cookie Responsibility Form available through Cookie Central. Responsibility forms are due by February 1.
Service Unit Fall Product (Snacks & Magazines) Manager

Recruitment training is created on an annual basis and is required for all Service Unit recruiters
As a Recruiter, you will serve as a local Girl Scout champion. Using your expertise, along with the support of dedicated Girl Scouts River Valleys staff, you will lead the way in engaging families in your community with our programs, hosting local recruitment events, and helping future Girl Scouts and adults register for membership. Red Cross certified Girl Scout River Valleys volunteers provide Red Cross First Aid and CPR trainings as well as Wilderness First Aid trainings. Learn more.
Archery Basics Facilitator Certification Training
Archery basics facilitator training provides volunteers the necessary skills to lead a beginner archery activity at a Girl Scout River Valleys Camp. You will learn about range safety and setup, shooting steps and equipment. This training is valid for three years. Archery facilitators must be 18 years or older and have had prior experience with archery. View upcoming adult trainings.
Small Water Craft Safety Certification Training
Small Water Craft Safety Certification is the current Safety Activity Checkpoints requirement for a canoe trip leader. You will learn the skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to canoe emergencies, and gain the knowledge to assist a troop in planning and implementing a canoe outing. This certification covers flat water canoeing and is valid for three years. It will also allow you to use kayaks at our camp properties. Please note this is not a canoeing skills class and participants must pass a swimming test and have basic canoe experience prior to participating. View upcoming adult trainings.
Low Ropes Facilitator Certification Training
Low Ropes Facilitator Certification offers opportunities for troop/groups to participate in group initiative games and low course challenge elements. In this 7-hour course learn how to facilitate the ropes course experience safely and properly. You’ll learn about group name games, ice-breakers, initiatives, trust, spotting, and the elements on the course as well as how to debrief the entire experience. The course also includes a facilitator guide. This training will allow facilitators to be able to use any Girl Scouts River Valleys low ropes course. Low ropes facilitators must be 18 years or older.
